Practical Applications of Pilates:
Three Main Categories
To Get Back to Normal:
Pilates can help post-operation and post-rehab clients or clients who are shy about training because of a shoulder injury, disc herniation, osteoporosis, sensitive wrists, bad knees, sciatica, scoliosis, fibromyalgia. Pilates is also practiced by those in Physical Therapy who, after diligent therapy sessions, are still frustrated with lack of progress.
To Maintain Normal:
Pilates helps clients of all ages to proportionally reshape the body; to enhance body shaping, develop long lean muscles and a lifted derriere without building unsightly bulk.
For older ex-athletes, Pilates is used simply to regain and restore the agility, flexibility and mental focus one used to enjoy, or just to maintain a body supple enough to enjoy physical activities with family and loved ones.
To Surpass Normal:
GOLFERS – who seek to better their golf game.
YOGINIS– to deepen their yoga practice rapidly.
YOUNG DANCERS – for injury prevention before their lower extremities become abused with repetitive torqueing and excessive weight bearing at the ankle joints.
HOCKEY PLAYERS – who want to enhance athletic performance, decrease set-up time for directional changes and increase cutting power.
BASKETBALL PLAYERS – to develop lateral leg strength and rotational flexibility.
FOR ALL ATHLETES – who wish to maintain long term symmetry and injury prevention, yet continue enjoying their rotational/ one-directional sports such as golf, tennis, ice-hockey.
